Facing Goliath

Most people are familiar with the story of David and Goliath. Israel was at war with the Philistines. A giant man with a ton of armor comes out and challenges the people of Israel. The challenge is that they send out someone to fight him. If Israel wins, then the Philistines become their servants. However, if Goliath wins then Israel becomes the servants of the Philistines.

Found Out and Moving Forward

In high school, I started to “teach” myself how to play the bass guitar. I write “teach” in quotes because I didn’t start with the foundational things. I didn’t know my scales or even what string was what. I just practiced tabs of other bands’ songs and tried to fake like I actually knew something.

One evening, the youth pastor came to me and asked if I would be willing to play with them. I was ecstatic. However, I was also pretty delusional. I thought I could just play what I thought sounded good. The problem was, I didn’t have a good grasp on aural skills either.

Wrapped in His Presence

My favorite Psalm in the Bible is Palm 139. There is so much wrapped inside that poem. It addresses our anxieties and insecurities.

You have searched me, Lord , and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord , know it completely. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.
